Framing the Blue Economy: Placelessness, Development and Sustainability

This article examines the wide acceptance and endorsement of notion blue economy. It places economy at intersection three discourses: placelessness sea, development sustainability. These discourses, originating on land, have spread spatially, narratively normatively to marine realm — part a larger process normalization sea via its inclusion in dominant model economic development. The author uses concept horizontal reciprocity illuminate this normalization. requires justifies governance maritime space; it creates political opportunities generates knowledge interventions, leading territorialization sea. therefore concludes with call for further research critically assess connections between macro discourses local realities, address current challenges facing oceans.
